Gibson Lines

Gibby Gibson of Charles City Co., Virginia, died 1727, sons; George, Gilbert and Edward. I believe most of the Gibsons connected by the DNA with the mutation 22-23 are descendants of George, and Gilbert', Edward died young left two daughters.  Gilbert's line is pretty much traced, but not George's line.

I  "suspect"  those from Orange Co., NC., etc., are from George's line as there is a mutation that those Gibsons have, not found in Gilbert's or the South Carolina families at DYS 413 Gilbert/SC lines at 23-23  and Thomas Gibson's etc., at 22-23.  Hubbard, Gideon, John, Roger, Jordan went to South Carolina.  Hubbard is likely a brother of Gibby as he named his sons; Edward, John and Hubbard Jr., daughter Mary, Gibby named his sons; Edward, George, Gilbert and daughter Mary.  Gilbert, Jordan, and Hubbard are likely surnames.

Edward is likely the ancestor as he is not found on the 'Living and Dead' census of 1623 and he was 'ministering to the sick' at Richmond. Edward is also found at Weyanoke which merged and became Westover, where Gibby made his will.

Edward of another generation is found at Lancaster/Middlesex County and a George Gibson and Thomas Chavis are found in Lancaster County mid 1650s before both appear on Chippoakes Creek.  These Gibsons matche the South Carolina group, Pee Dee River, Orangeburg etc.  Henry County, Alabama etc.  See Gibson DNA Project

South Carolina.  Roger, Gideon and Jordan are in SC in early 1730s, Roger has a nephew Luke, a Cherokee trader, and niece Susannah,  probably related to Anthony Wright.  John and wife Elizabeth Gibson with son, Gilbert and four daughters are on the Congaree at the Trading/Fort there. Charles Russell of Henrico Co., Va., is the Captain.

2 May 1705, Charles Russell in partnership with Allenson Clarke,  was issued a patent for 945 acres, named ‘Windsor Forrest.’ This land was still in Henrico County, but on the north side of the James River and on the east side of the main branch of Tuckahoe Creek; i.e. on the present day Henrico-Goochland line.  I believe this is Gilbert son of John who went to Fort Congaree with Capt Charles Russell.  Allenson Clarke is said to be the son of William Clarke and Mary Gibson.

Gilbert1 Gibson, born around 1685 was sued in Henrico County court on 1 June 1709 by John Ellis for a debt of 2 pounds currency due by account. He sued Joseph Watson in court in July 1710, and he was sued by Allenson Clarke for a 4 pound currency debt in September the same year [Orders 1707-9, 153, 163; 1710-4, 15, 25]. [Not Gilbert of Louisa Co]

Thomas Gibson  is found in Charles River County [later York, which became New Kent then Hanover County] in 1630s with a Nicholas Gibson aldo with Robert Bouth/Booth and John Utie. He had land on Queens Creek, neighbor of Peter Ware who is related by marriage to the Valentine and Garret families.   Thomas' son Nicholas was born in 1640 as he inherited his father's land in 1658, this is the same land in New Kent that Thomas Gibson II lived on, where the  same neighbors of Thomas Gibson I are found; Clopton, Pouncey, Napier, Booth etc.  Many trees have Thomas I wife as Elizabeth Booth daughter of Robert as Thomas gave her land and a cow 'for reasons known only to him' but this Elizabeth married Patrick Napier, her sister married William Clopton.  Hundreds of trees have Thomas II's wife as Mary/Mary Allen and buried at the church there.  They are not buried there, in fact there are no Gibsons buried at that church and there is no record whatsever of Thomas' wife. There is a Mary Gibson, member of same Parish as Thomas in the 1690s but she is likely the widow of Nicholas and mother of Thomas as the WIDOW GIBSON shows up in the newly formed county of King and Queen 1704. This Gibson line does not connect to Charles City County line. See Valentine Gibson in the Project.

Richard Gibson line of Dumfries,  Stafford/Prince William County, Virginia had a gristmill there in 1690. Dumfries was the second leading port in Colonial America receiving tobacco from the upland.  He is ancestor of Jacob, of Fairfield County,  South Carolina.

Thomas Gibson, Elizabath Worley  line of Henrico/Chesterfield County, Virginia, descendants to Buckingham/Scott County, Virgina and to Arkansas and Georgia, also in Graves Co., Ky - the James and Ruth Estep Gibson of Scott County - Stoney Creek Church is probably from this line. This is the Absolem Gibson of Franklin Co., Va., and Shadrack and William of Scott County line.

Andrew Gibson of Caswell Co., North Carolina, possibly from Frederick County, Virginia.  Joel Gibson, father of Jacob Gibson also from Frederick Co., Va., they were in Guilford Co., NC., went to Grainger Co., Tennessee and to Arkansas/Alabama.  The James Gibson died Russell Co., Va., in 1831 is likely from Andrew's line. [This one has puzzled me for years.  Andrew Gibson, Blacksmith, born 1775 in Caswell County, NC enlisted at Staunton, Virginia 1807 under by Lieutenant Sevier under Capt Braham [Branham?]  He was dark complected, dark hair and brown eyes.

Jacob Gibson Revolutionary Solider, born 1763 in Frederick County, Va., father was Joel Gibson.  Jacob enlisted in Guilford Co., North Carolina, moved to Grainger Co., Tennessee where he sold his father's land warrant, claimed he had a younger brother in Missouri.

Major George Gibson of Gibson Station Lee County, Virgina son of Robert and Isabell Smith Gibson from Pennsylvanit to Augusta Co., Va.  James Gibson married Anna Carter in Russell Co., Va., is thought to be his bother.  Descendants of George and James intermarried, went to Arkansas, George is not related by DNA to Gibsons of Hancock County.

James Gibson of Bedford Co., Va., said to be from Dumfries Scotland ,married Eleanor Corrie. Was at North Farnham Parish, Virginia, probably brother of Robert Gibson, his son Joseph married daughter of James. Some descendants in Rockingham Co., NC., Union Co., SC., Kentucky and Georgia.

Jonathan  Gibson  from High Knipe, Bampton, England to Virginia, possibly related to the Robert of Stafford County, both have connections to the Catlett family.   Jonathan is of the Bishop Edmund Gibson of England Gibson line, had tobacco warehouses up and down the coast.  May be related to William Gibson of Rappahannock and Richard Gibson of Dumfries, Stafford Co., Va.  https://joannepezzullo.blogspot.com/2014/10/jonathan-gibson-part-one_9.html

George and Elizabeth DeVinney Gibson of Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, parents of Thomas Gibson of Russell Co., Va., married Agnes Peery, parents of Samuel and Thomas Gibson.  Believe that John Gibson married the sister of Chief Logan, father of Nicholas Gibson belongs in this line, another son George Gibson Jr., known as the 'fighting Gibsons'

Armon Gibson is found with David and William Gibson, as well as Edward Harris, the Stanleys and Micajah Sansom.  Dorothy and David Gibson were members of Meherrin Church when she married to Micajah Sansom. They went from Lunenburg Co., to Wilkes Co., NC to Burke Co., NC., then to Laurens Co., SC.  Some of the descendants went to Franklin Co Tennessee and intermarried with the James Gibson family of Russell Co., Va.  Major Gibson was in Burke Co., also, and 'a' Micajah Sansom was found neighbors of Gilbert Gibson Jr., in Berkley Co., SC.

Gilbert Gibson son of Gibby  descendants;

Gilbert Jr., married Phoebe, possibly Gibson as she named her son Gibson Jones.  Married Richard Jones, Indian trader, of Middlesex County, Va., Richard died shortly after move to Louisa County.  Gilbert, Phoebe and the Jones went to Randolph Co., NC by brother David Gibson in 1767 then to Berkely/Newberry County, South Carolina.

George married Susannah, stayed in Louisa County, he is NOT the George found in Orange Co., NC.

William stayed in Louisa County

Jordan  is likely the father of Jonathan Gibson found in Halifax County with Vardy McBee, the Hendricks and the Echols.  Jordan is found on Thickety Creek in Spartanburg where he is married to Rhoda, daughter of Vardry McBee wife Hannah Echols.  Jordan had a number of illiegitimate children, one being a Scott, moved to Logan Co., Ky and died in Lawrence Co., Arkansas.

David born about 1710 married Hannah, born 1720, moved to Orange/Randolph Co., NC on Back Creek, home of the Keyauwee Indian Tribe. Thomas and Willborn Gibson were both in the Revolution from Randolph County.  Thomas' uncle was Mannering/Manning/Mourning Brookshire.  David had sons Gilbert, Thomas and George, Hannah died in 1820, obituary said she had over 300 descendants.

I've not found anything on Gideon Gibson.

Louise County Virginia Will Book  Written June 7, 1760----Probated Oct. 15, 1764.

Wife Sarah whole estate as long as she lives and the maintenance of the children till such time as they come of age and then everyone have their proportional part of the Estate that is left and mentioned here below.

To son William Gibson land upon Southanna River and personal property. To son Gilbert Gibson 1 shilling. To son David Gibson 1 shilling. To daughter Tabitha Gibson personal property. To daughter Mary Gibson personal property. To daughter Jane Gibson personal property. Everything left divided among my 7 children. Lend to son George land he lives on provided he pay 10 shillings per year. Lend to daughter Frances Gibson land to live upon during her life if she pays 10 shillings per year.

Samuel and Sarah Lemay are not mentioned in this record. Samuel Lemay was married in 1760 as his oldest child, Elizabeth was born circa 1757. Probably Sarah Lemay had married also. Gilbert Gibson probably provided for them in other ways. To compare the two Deeds/Wills, the 1756 Deed mentions Gibson children named Gideon, Jordan, Tabitha, Mary, George and Frances.
